Chips: 9,819 | | | Minimum raise For some reason this rule...
"all raises must be equal to or greater than the size of the of the previous bet or raise on that round, except when making an all-in wager."
is not usually questioned in tourneys I play in but seems to come up a lot in cash games usually in the form of "it's no limit you can bet whatever you want..."
What's the reasoning behind this rule?
Does anyone not apply this rule to cash games?
Thanks.

It's a sh*t or get off the pot rule. Don't waste my time with a raise that's smaller than my original bet. I don't care if its a cash game or not. Min raise is the previous bet in no limit games. |

If you allow that, it can lead to all kinds of colluding. |

kaplan on HSP? some PAD episode?
they said that he'd raise a $1000 bet $10, loved to do so, and so they put in the rule to stop the annoyance. essentially it slows the game down and is dumb. kinda like raising to 599 on the 100/200 level, which is also dumb but at least doesn't slow the game down (online, anyhow). |

Thanks. | I "tweak" the rule a little.
I use "equal to or greater than the big blind" but it normally falls back in line with the original rule anyway. Works fine both ways as far as I'm concerned.

I have to admit I made up a story to a bunch of volunteer dealers of various degree of apptitude. I sold this story just so it would stick in their minds. I'm not exactly proud of it. Quote:
Poker started as a man's game. It's roots are on the riverboats and the dusty saloons spread all accross america. Poker was not for the timid or the dainty, and aspects of the game reflected that.
Part of that was a raise. Your raise has to have at least as much courage as the previous bet, if not more. | Lots of head nods followed. Hey, it sounds better than "It's just the rules".

It's the "Ace high wins the chip race, and not a pair of deuces" rule that they are baffled by. |

Are you talking about a counterfeited pair or are there some very interesting rules in your home game?
I know I have had to explain how ace high beats a small under pair to two pair on the board quite a few times. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
