"check-raise" in your home game?

I'm reading DN's book "Hold'em Wisdom for All Players" and in it he mentions that many people outlaw the "check-raise" in their home games.

Was wondering what your thoughts were on this. My home games permit the "check-raise" and I don't ever think I would ever play in a game that doesn't allow it.

Re: "check-raise" in your home game?

NO WAY. That's the best part of a home game, check-raise, then talk trash afterwards.

Book start off very basic - etiquette, mucking, types of different poker players, blinds, betting. As you read into the book, he gets more into strategy and game-play. For example, how to play certain hands, odds, AA, AK, troubled hands, short-stacked play.

I'm only half way through it but so far my feeling is that his explanations are very short and to the point. I think it's a great book for someone who really doesn't know much about the game. Maybe as I read on this will change. I will update you all when I finish it.

Any game that I host is identical to any casino hosted game - including the ability to leave whenever any player wants to. Check-raising is a normal play in my game.

Re: "check-raise" in your home game?

with all the coverage of poker on TV, there's no one who doesn't understand the check raise. The only time I could see it being prevented is for beginners in a pot limit game (cause they don't understand the power that putting chips into the pot gives the next player) and reading my own argument even that doesn't hold a lot of water. I say check raise allowed unless your playing a 5 year old. (and he's probably muli-tabling on P* right now)

Re: "check-raise" in your home game?

We use to disallow check raises. Now when I host games, it goes by casino rules.

I play no homes games without check raise? are you kidding me..... without check raise - poker is a game of chance. i got no game if you take that move away. gods sake. give me the spot to check - bump - reraise. rudimentary.

hell, lets talk more about straddling.

i've witnessed tables where the expo bumped straddle gets to the button??!?? moves all around the table... pot committed? LOL

no check-raise action i dont play..... nuetered action.
