I always have a hard time figuring some pots involving kickers..here's a dumb one..I think I know but I want to double check...On a hand where there is no paired cards and it is down to high card....Suppose both players have an ace..one player has a 10, one a 9...but there is a queen (or higher card) in general on the board...does the second card in your hand count or not? I would think the that kicker would be out since no one had a higher card than what was on the board?? thanks.

Hi:
All depends in wich other cards are on the flop if they are higher than 10 the kicker doesn´t count, but if they are lower than 10 it counts .
Me thinks that if you both had an Ace and there were no pairs on the board and 3 of the cards were bigger than a 10, that the guy with the 10 would have a straight... else the 10 as a kicker would play.
Always think what is my 5 card hand, what is his 5 card hand, and then which is best.
A10 v. A9
Flop = QJ864
The best hand for A10 = AQJ108
The best hand for A9 = AQJ98
The best hand is AQJ108 (just go down the line comparing cards till you have a difference with the higher value card being the winner. If there is no difference you split the pot)
A10 v. A9
Flop = AKKQJ
The best hand for A10 = AKQJ10
The best hand for A9 = AAKKQ
The best hand is AKQJ10 (straight).
A10 v. A9
Flop = AJJJ5
The best hand for A10 = AAJJJ
The best hand for A9 = AAJJJ
The best hand is AAJJJ (split pot)
Pay attention for starights and flushes. As stated above I can't see a scenario with no pair but three cards above 10 and you're both holding Aces that there's not a straight with his 10 (KQJ being the only three cards that fit that exact description).
