Chips: 1,037 | | | Color-Up/Blinds Last night at my weekly tourney, a new guy caused quite the scuffle about coloring up and my blind schedule. Here it is: (20 min/level)
10/20
15/30
20/40
25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200
150/300
200/400
300/600
400/800
500/100
600/1200
800/1600
1000/2000
We color up our Red (5) chips after level 3, our Green (25) chips after level 8(*thanks abby*), and our Black (100) chips after level 14(*again, thanks*). When someone has a ton of Purple (500) chips, we usually have no problem trading them for Yellow (1000) chips.
Anyway, this new guy (a friend of a regular) made a huge deal about coloring up and my blind schedule. I didn't think it was unreasonable. I mean, we've been playing the same way every week for the last 3 months. The new guy said "When and how you color up shows how little you know about and understand the game." I let it go at the moment, but as he was leaving I kindly requested he not come anymore. Is there anything wrong with the way I do things? Feel free to be honest, I don't care. I want to do things right, even if it does take all of us a while to get used to it. BTW when we color up we don't race, we just round.

If it continues, I suggest they go buy a house, find space for a poker table, buy chips, cards, chairs, buttons, and most of all, buy or build a table, and host their own game the way they want.
I have little tolerance for people that ***** about a game being played. You can play and enjoy it, or you can play somewhere else. Choice is yours, I have a waiting list for an open seat, so let me know what you are doing. |

Greens are in play through level 8, which is when they should be colored up. I'm guessing level 7 was a typo.
Blacks are in play through level 14 and should be left on the table until then. Another typo?
Generally, when a chip denomination is colored up, all of the chips of that denomination are removed from play. Odd chips are dealt with by either a race-off or rounding up. I've seen partial color-ups in home games if some players are unable to manage their chip stacks. |

as for the blinds. that is one sweet structure, well-planned and would probably favour more experienced skilled players. maybe he wasn't in that skill level and saw the disadvantage to him. |

Chips: 1,037 | | | Re: Color-Up/Blinds Thanks. I actually just got an email from the guy who brought this troublemaker last night. He ranted and raved the whole way home apparently about rounding for color-ups. I guess he said "Only amatuers round up." Ha. Whatever. Thanks again for the replies. I'm done venting about this guy. I love this forum. I'm completely addicted. |

He seems like the type who, once he knows something, looks down at anyone else who doesn't do things the exact "right" way. He can point to the rules about coloring up and show you how "right" he is by insisting on a race-off, but . . . among friends a round-up is OK as long as that's what everyone expects.
Looks like a good game! |

Yes, we do manage to have a fun time every week when we get together, regardless of the cards. The way I see it, $5 or $10 a week isn't gonna break the bank and it's a GREAT way to relax and hang out mid-week. |

It really makes me feel better to take the chips from the " All-knowing Loudmouth Players" Who always know more about the game than anybody else.
Keep playing and having fun, it is a social game. |
