Chips: 1,243 | | | color up question In our tournies, rather than spending time racing, we just round up...2 or 3 25's gets you 1 new 100...
but we ran into an interesting situation last week...
we were coloring out the 25's.....but the big boutny (last months winner) had one (and only one) $25 chip. that was his whole stack.
Now regardless of wether we race or round, this player was in danger of getting colored out of the tournament! I was the TD at the time and ruled to just color him up to 1 $100 chip. some at the table bitched that I just tripled him for free...My response was that I didn't think we should color anyone out of the tourney..[they eventually agreed when I said if that happened the bounty would roll over to next week, and might not be at their table]
anyone dealt with this before or see a flaw in my reasoning / ruling...

anyone dealt with this before or see a flaw in my reasoning / ruling... | From what I have read and seen, you did the right thing.
When we color from 25 to 100 we usually race, but when we go from 100 to 500 we just round up.
In your scenario, because of this situation, if I were the TD I would have rounded up all players this time, and left that player with one chip.
Mostly because the next bet this person makes, or blind he posts, puts him all-in anyway. (Assuming that since you colored up your 25's to 100's the blinds must have currently been 100/200.) |

Chips: 151 | | | Re: color up question You are supposed to race first. If your player then loses the race he must be given the lowest denomination still playable. (in this case t100). That keeps you from automatically giving him one before the race. You can never be removed from the table through colour up. And tell your other friend.."no I didn't triple him up...........I quadrupled him up!" |

I have one guy that refused to color up. Finally had to tell him he forfeited his entry if he wouldnt, because all the rules had been read prior to.. Got interesting for a minute, he is kindof a big guy.
Anyway, rounding up is quicker and easier... |

Chips: 4,436 | | | Re: color up question Which is what I do regardless of the denom (although I only color up 5's, 25's and 100's). The only people who ever complain are those with an even stack. The whole idea of coloring up is that the departing chip is of little value anymore, so the fact that someone gets a little more than someone else is of little concern to me, although it still bugs people. Anyway, I always round everyone up, so I would have done the same as you. Quote: |

However, I'm not sure how this other guy even saw this as a problem. He was down to 1 chip before the color up and... guess what?... he was STILL down to one chip after the chip up.
Other than not being colored up and out of the tournament, he benefited in no way whatsover. He has one play left either way. The fact that someone took the time to ***** about the "amount he gained" by chipping from $25 to $100 needs to cool down a little ... and consider the "real results" of that as opposed to his "perceived advantage."
Although, it was nice to see all the official rules on this in terms of racing. Since I had never considered this possibility. I would've guessed/assumed that official rules won't allow anyone to be colored out of a tournament during a race, but the verification was cool. |

RRoP clearly state that a player can't be colored up and out of a tourney. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
