This came up in a tourney last night and I wanted to get your opinion on how you would handle it. $5 per player bounty chip optional, not mandatory. A player who chooses not to be in it can not win one off another player.
-3 players all in preflop., 12 players still in tourney, rebuys available at this time. -Player #1 is chip leader out of these 3 and is not in the bounty -Player #2, 2nd in chips, has bounty chip -Player #3, short stack, has bounty chip -Hand is played out, player #1 wins the side pot and main pot. -Player #2s hand beats player #3s hand. -Player #1 not in the bounty can not receive any bounty chips
Question: Does player 3 owe player 2 his bounty? or Should both players just keep their bounties?
Player 3 owes player 2 the bounty. It is just like in tournments when 2 players go out on the same hand the person with the most chips going into the hand gets the higher finishing place if multiple people bust on the same hand.
So since player 2 had more chips and player one did not participate in the bounty then player 2 gets the higher finishing spot and would win the bounty over player 3. Thats the way I believe it is supposed to go.
I would say that player 2 would get the bounty chip. He and player 3 were both all in. If player 1 was not in the hand player's 2 hand would have won the pot and the chip. So with being the better hand in player's 2 hand, they are the winner.
Player two gets player three's bounty. I would not leave bounties as being optional; this seems to create problems and change they way different players might play (in theory).
obviously, not player 1 since he didn't opt in for the bounty
player 2 did not eliminate player 3, so s/he can't win the bounty either. the point of a bounty is to award someone for eliminating another player. to eliminate a player, you have to win the hand that causes your opponent to go broke in the tourney. player 2 didn't win the hand; as a matter of fact player 2 was eliminated in that hand. why would s/he be awarded a bounty prize for being eliminated? (tongue in cheek)
stack sizes just prior to all ins should only be used to determine tournament placement of players who are eliminated on the same hand. it should not play a role in determining who wins a bounty.
oh yeah, avoid this problem and make the bounty mandatory
