Eight or Better Stud
Each game is given a blind level, when the blinds go up, the game changes.

H = Holdem
O = Omaha (usually Omaha high-low with low needing to be 8 or lower, but sometimes Omaha high-only)
R = Razz (seven card stud played for low only, A2345 is the lowest hand, but no qualifier for low)
S = Seven card stud, high only
E = Seven card stud high-low, eight or better to qualify (the "E" comes from "eight")
In a HORSE tournament these games are rotated, usually based on number of minutes per level, and are typically played as limit games (rather than pot-limit or no-limit) except for the Holdem leg, which is sometimes played as no-limit.
Make sense? |

For the stud games, does everyone post antes (like normal), or is a small/big blind used (as in hold'em)?
And for "E", you need an 8 or lower for the low-hand (a pair disqualifies the hand, but straights and flushes are ignored)?

Just as I find out my "regular" poke game has collapsed, you post about playing HORSE in yours... I'm so envious, especially since I was going to try and bring that in to our home game!
Good luck with that, sir... maybe we'll have it at the Ontario meet (should we ever get together to have one )... |

Working on building a new one (maybe this weekend) | Actually, my regular game broke up as well, but I've established a "league" at work (40+ members, although it's rare to get more than 12 to show up on a given night) and, from the old regular game's ashes, plus some members from the league, I have a new home game group that play every 4 weeks at my place and at another guy's place (offset by 2 weeks)... Just NLHE so far, but some players have been looking for variety...
HORSE might be a jump for this new group at this point, but I could see a night of each of these games (O-R-S-E) over the next few months, and then maybe a HORSE night in the spring or something. |
