Hmmm tough one how about the person with better hand should win unless they have the exact hand?

I would either split 3rd's cut between them, or....

When the regular tournament is over, give them each a small stack of chips and let them duke it out, heads up, until there is a winner. Give that person the 3rd place cash.

Maybe it's not the official way, but an alternate solution with creativity and more added drama to the game.

I might be digging up an older post, but I'm new here

I actually saw this happen at my local casino once. We were 6 handed with 5 players being paid. I was under the gun with very few chips remaining so I moved all in. A few spots behind me a woman with the same amount of chips as I decided to call. The two blinds also decided to call and they checked it down, eliminating both of us. Before the cards were dealt, we wanted an official decision if that were to happen, both of us eliminated on the same hand. They split the money between the two of us, and I just gave up the extra dollar that couldn't be divided. So instead of finishing 5th place and getting double my money back, I ended up making about $6 on the tourney, lol.
