Many games don't clarify their position on this (including the game I go to). Most of the time it isn't a problem but on occasion someone comes to the game who isn't used to it. Since there isn't a written position on straddling, it's something that the house makes optional by the players at the table. So, in essense, yes, you can have straddles on sometimes and off others. You can get a rule change at a table most of the time when you can get the table to agree to it. For example, you can ask that your $1/$2 table be made a $2/$5 table and if everyone agrees, the house will likely allow it. This is similar to the straddle issue.

Also, it only lets them act last pre-flop. After the flop the button, or player closest to the button going to the players right will always act last.

I believe only the UTG can straddle and he does get the right of last action PF, see here; you'll need to search for straddle.
PS: I also found the answer to my earlier question that a straddle is not considered a raise. |

Get two MP callers and the BB calls. I look down at AsKs and make it $35 total. Only one of the MP players call. Flop comes TJQ rainbow, we get all the money in, and he has QJ. The turn and river are blanks and I scoop a really big pot. I thought the straddle helped suck him in. |

Although a few weeks ago we were playing a cash game, UTG straddled and UTG+1 double straddled. Basically just anther min-raise, but then UTG+1 got last action. I don't know if that's technically legal or not, but we allowed it. |

Chips: 52 | | | Re: Does anyone staddle bet their NL games? a staddle is made by the UTG, the following person might staddle after that, so yeah, it isn't limited to the UTG, but if the UTG doesn't staddle then UTG +1 can't do it.
How could a person other than the UTG staddle? That player would be acting out of turn.
The first person to act on any street can bet/check blind but no other players can do that if the first person to act doesn't do it first. |

I guess they think it will somehow get the game going for them. No player is obligated to make a straddle, just because someone asks.
There is NO value in making an additional bet that nobody else has to make. It is the very definition of Dead Money, so I’m all for it (as long as it’s not me making the bet).
