Chips: 44 | | | A School game i had. So i was playing poker at school today with 7 people $5 buy in and it was down to 3 players me, my friend, and another guy. One guy said all in with about 40-50 chips i had about 130-150 so i thought i was getting good odds so i called, and the cheap Pri*k pulls about 70-100 more chips from on his lap and puts them on to the table. It was possibly the cheapest thing i have ever encountered playing poker. So we ended up kicking him out for hiding chips. What would you guys have done in this situation? |

If you remove chips from the table in a cash game, it's not cheating, but it's disrespectful and poor etiquette. You won't get invited back, if players can't have a chance to win their money back, because you're stashing away your winnings. If you don't want to bet those chips, keep them on the table, but don't put them in the pot. Pros call that 'going south'.
In a tournament setting, removing chips from the table is absolutely forbidden. Players could exchange chips during a break and give another player a big advantage. When you remove chips from the table and deliberately conceal them, that's cheating and you deserve to be removed from the event with no prize money. |

Kick that kid in the nuts next time he tries that. |

We have some cases where the big value chips will be hidden behind the bigger stack of smaller value chips- it's always ok to ask for count of someone's chips. If they conceal at that point they're cheating. Your specific case of a tournament with chips in his lap - never play with that prick again.
In our home cash game - we allow people to remove money from the table. This most often happens when someone wants to buy back in and someone will sell them chips and then pocket the cash. If it's left on the table it's in play.
In summary chips never leave the table - but in a cash game it may be considered poor ettiqutte by some - but it's a cash game and players can cash out and remove some of their stack at any time - but the chips go back to the "banker" or are sold to another player. Cash can play on the table - but chips don't go into the pocket.

I will lay a wager he will complain vehemently to anyone who will listen which will accomplish two things: first, everyone will know he is a tool and, second, it should help discourage anyone else from trying anything as lame as this in future games.
What a jerk.

Dump this guy. People like this is always skirting the limits of the rules.
In a cash game, going south is never allowed at any of the casinos I've been in. In a friendly game, house rules apply. Short of taking chips and paying for drinks, food, or tokes, is disallowed. Now I have asked permission to take a single check off the table for collector purposes, but no one objected.
At the Tropicana, if you cashed you had to wait 2 hours to come back in. BDub and I just had this happen at the Argosy. She took a terrible beat. I cashed and went to dinner and split my winnings with her and bought back in.
This dude is a snake...
