Not to put too fine a point on it, but I'd seriously take this factor into account. One of the first things about home cash games I learned (most of which was wrong anyway, so take this with a grain of salt) was that it only pays to kick out the cheater if he's
winning at it. From a strategic standpoint, a (regular) cheater does do because he can't win honestly. Which means either (a) he just sucks, or (b) he's too lazy to pay attention to his game, devoting his attention to his cheating plans. In other words, cheaters -- even if
not caught -- don't always win with it.
That's a
money versus
cameraderie decision. Nobody wants to hang around with a cheater. But sometimes the best payback is to take all his money away.
I'd also take into account whether or not this is the guy's first game -- if he's just learning how to play the game (being "mentored" by the other players, so to speak), then I might be willing to cut him some slack
just this once. If that's
not the case -- if there was
any way he knew he was supposed to keep his chips on the table -- then you'd have to consider him a
true cheater and handle the decision as to whether to keep him or not from there.
