Chips: 235 | | | What if someone... What happens if someone says "I call you all-in?" This happened in my home game last night. I said that it is only a call. He said that he can do that and even saw someone say it in a casino one time.
What is the ruling for this? | | Sponsored Links | This custom ChipTalk link is built to show you only the real deal: Casino quality poker chips; Not the plastic chips that some sellers call "clay." http://www.eBay.com/casino-chips | |

If so, technically once the words "I call" came out of their mouth, they called. That's my rule. However, I've played where this is no big deal as long as it wasn't a clear string bet.
I stick to the rules though, because I don't want to open doors to people questioning my other rules. So in this case, that all-in raise would be a string bet, and not allowed. |

Also, what if someone says "I PUT you all-in?". Does the supervisor step in? |

The most they can do here is call, otherwise it's a string bet.
The phrase makes sense to me if the person making this declaration doesn't have enough chips to make the call, as in "I call you, (but I am) all in".

If someone says "I put you all in" that's raising the amount that their opponent has in front of them. Which is fine. No need for the floor to step in. |

I think if it happened at my house, I would probably consider it an all-in, as the all-in was obviously the intent, just poorly worded.
We will often say "I'll PUT you all-in" (when you have more chips than they do) and there is no confusion with that.
Some of the decision would depend on any chip movement as well. If they push forward while saying this, I would witout a doubt consider it an all-in bet.
We only get strict with players who try to do things like, "I call your bet, and raise you XXXX." This obviously is never allowed.
It's all word semantics really so I really think: I'd look at the player history and if mixing up poker terms is common with them, they often try to trick other players or they just flubbed up once.
I've tried (and they've gotten better) to train our players that there are really only 2 words they need to say when it's their turn to act and there will be no confusion. These words are "Call" or "Raise." When they say "Raise" as their first word, they can fiddle and count their chips all they want, and stare down other players while they do it, so long as they actually raise the bet on their action, from 1x the current bet to going all-in.
But that is just my opinion, and it is just a home game. |

Also I would agree with some others here about "I'll put you all in." That is something that I have heard said several times, live, and on tv.

if you went to a restaurant and ordered chicken, but intended on getting the beef, what are you going to get?
people need to learn on SPEAKING CORRECTLY. They shouldn't even say "I put you all in." They just need to say, "All in". | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
