Re: Checking down..

As posted, the Short Stack has a straight 6-T.

Edit: but I agree with your point. You don't have to check it down, but the only time it's not a good idea to do so is when you have a VERY good hand (or maybe want to steal a large side pot).

Re: Checking down..

Is this a cash game or tourney?
if it is tourney, then checking down is appropriate (except if there is a large sidepot, etc.)
If it is a cash game, anything goes.

I wasn't tweaked about the money, just about the improper bet on his part.

I sat out for about 10 minutes to cool my jets.

Thanks for letting me vent...

Once again (this always happens to me) the "inactive" cards are close to the actual hand, not exact.

I always seem to get one card wrong when trying to recollect it that destroys the example. I'll edit it, thanks for the catch.

This is a cash game, and late into it about 6 players left from a 10 player start. At this point (about 11pm, cut-off is about midnight) most players are just hanging on, and not re-buying.

I still think that was a bad move in any circumstance...

Re: Checking down..

in a cash game you reap no benefit from checking it down (except maybe knocking out this player you say is annoying). If anything you made a mistake checking the flop but maybe not a horrible play seeing where the tight player was at, but then checking the turn and river you were asking for someone to suck out on you.

In a tournament you check down in a situation like this to knock someone out and move up in money. it's mutually beneficial for both of you to be in to the river so you have the best chance of beating the all-in player. But in a cash game you gain nothing by checking it down.

Re: Checking down..

As stated earlier, if the side pot is large enough in a tourney then it is a great move. Who cares about eliminating players.

It is all about your stack at a given time. if the all in player is only reaping a small amount of chips it also makes sense.

It may also depend on who you are trying to eliminate. If he is a bad player keep him in. he might suck out on a better player and make your win easier. but in the long run you will beat him.

Of course this whole scenario changes at the money cut-off. if you are eliminating the player not getting paid. then check

As your read indicated if he was trying to bust players sounded like he could be going in with a lot of hands (and did 67c) and have easily missed that board.

FWIW... the post edit still appears to be wrong with no 7 to pair up on the board... unless he had a pp.

Re: Checking down..

Fins, what I meant was, in a situation where a bet was called, or the river was checked, then you have to show both to win the pot.

If the cards hit the muck and you're last with live cards, you don't have to show anything. This goes with the rule that any cards that hit the muck are dead.
