Mucking on the showdown

Generally speaking in a home game, would or should most people object to a player mucking at the showdown? Most rules I've read is that everyone must show their cards at the showdown, but a regular player in my home game maintains that you can always muck. Granted this should only be an issue if you suspect cheating... but what's the concensus?

Re: Mucking on the showdown

As far as I know, anybody in the hand at the showdown has the right to see the other guy's cards --- but it is considered bad form / impolite to demand to see them.

Re: Mucking on the showdown

I would always let anyone muck, no one at my home game would ever cause me concern over cheating.

If anyone ever insisted, quoting the rule at me, I'd show them the cards and then not invite them back.

I think that pretty much sums it up.

BTW: The rule is here, for anybody that wants a one-time game w/ Strange:
http://www.chiptalk.net/index.php?Ch...berts_Rules#S3

Any player who has been dealt in may request to see any hand that has been called, even if the opponent's hand or the winning hand has been mucked. However, this is a privilege that may be revoked if abused. If a player other than the pot winner asks to see a hand that has been folded, that hand is dead. If the winning player asks to see a losing player’s hand, both hands are live, and the best hand wins.

Re: Mucking on the showdown

It seems the casino rule is that you can only ask to see cards if you suspect cheating:

Re: Mucking on the showdown

Outside of this rule which I really think has the intent of catching collusion or cheaters, you always have the option to muck your hand. The only time you have to show your cards is if you want to make a claim for the pot. If you're shown a hand that beats you, toss them into the muck. If you're not sure whether or not you're beat, show your hand and let the dealer sort it out.

Re: Mucking on the showdown

"Showdown" "If" he means two or more players are all in in a No limit game, then there should be no question. Once all the remaining players have gone all in, or there can be no more betting ( because only 1 player has chips to bet) while there are still cards to be played the following is the rules. All players must turn there cards face up. Once the cards are face up you continue on. Very simple rule.

Re: Mucking on the showdown

This is not entirely true.
The turning up applies to tournament play.
In cash game you dont need to show until the end.
In fact, at Casino Morongo, EVEN if there is no more possible betting (players all in) you CAN NOT turn your cards over!! If you do it VOIDS the jackpot!!
