I'm with GUN on this. The player who bets and is called post river, is obligated to show first at a showdown. If your opponent thinks he/she is beat, he/she can muck basically conceding to the winning hand. You see that on TV all of the time but if one is all in and no more betting can occur, then they show their cards in a tournament. I'm sure this was put in to add excitement in the tournies.
In most places i've played in the last person to bet and was called has to show his hand and the next player in order of betting either shows or mucks if he chooses to!
Yeah your right. I'm sure that was the main reason for it. With the cameras however, it is exciting to some and they have no idea. I wish I can find that article because it kind talks about that with the other rule that when called and you muck that the player can ask to look at you cards. Oh well, i'll find it one day and start a discussion thread.
Right, the excitement factor is an added bonus. Doesn't make for real good tv when its all in and then once the river is dealt one player flips up his hand and the other guy mucks.
