Chips: 177 | | Can some one confirm this? Ok, I've been playing for years. Played in home games and casinos both in the states and abroad. I know there are a lot of things that may vary from casino to casino as far as house rules are concerned but I need to know if others have seen this elsewhere in a casino. I know this is going to sound like a newbie question but...
In hold em,( PL, NL, or Limit) what are the minimum bets for each round?
In my experience, I've ALWAYS seen them like this below. Let's say your blinds are $5/$10:
PF - $5 minimum however since the BB is posted the minimum is $10 to call.
FLOP - Minimum bet is $5
TURN - Minimum bet is $10
RIVER - Minimum bet is $10
I had someone today say that the minimum on the FLOP in the above example is $10 and why would the minimum bet go down on the FLOP. He stated that he's played like that and asked me where did I play. Now, he was a jerk so f*** him but I'm just curious to see. I know somethings vary but I think this is a standard "Blind" type game rules correct?
Also, if you have a link that will show this I would appreciate it. |

2/4 Limit: small bilnd 1, big blind 2, first player can go 2 or 4. On the flop, initial bet must be 2 (equal to big blind)
5/10 No Limit: small blind 5, big blind 10, first player can go 10 or 20+. On the flop, initial bet must be at least 10 (equal to big blind) |

It's amazing how all the casino's and home games you have played in have got this wrong. |

I agree with what the others have said, although I do sympathise with you. its always seemed a little odd that a 1/2 game would be more accurately described as 2/4 since the bets are 2 on the first two rounds and 4 on the second two. the '1' in the game title is actually just half a bet and is used once and once only.
Unfortunately, as sympathetic as I am, you are still wrong. |

Chips: 177 | | Re: Can some one confirm this? I'm shocked and embarrassed! I must really concentrate on the cards so much that I never really noticed. It must be age. I read along time ago where i thought I read that "the SB is half of the min bet." which is where I think I got my signals crossed. (Good catch Strange that's exactly what I've been thinking the whole time!) Before I post and looked for validation at this link http://www.pokersyte.com/holdem.htm and still read it wrong. But now re-reading it on a 2/4 game the blinds would be $1 and $2 which would make the FLOP min bet $2 which again is probably where I got my reasoning and never looked back. Using that reasoning, I always thought that the SB was half of the BB which in reality it's half of the min bet.
I look back now to the places I've played and yes, that's the way it is. Wow...He was still a jerk so again F*** him but he was right nevertheless and I stand corrected. Had he came to me in a different tone, I might have said, well maybe I'm wrong let's look it up. Thanks! This was a serious mis-read...

when you are at a casino (or home game)
limit games are listed by the minium bets and fixed raises (e.g. 2/4 $2 pre-flop/flop $4 turn /river) NOT listed by the blinds...which in this case would be 1/2, $2 is only the minimum bet for the first two rounds
no-limit games at the casino ARE listed by the blinds not by the minimum bets..so 1/2 limit would be SB=$1 BB=$2 therefore the minimum bet would be the blind. Raises must be at least the amount of any previous raise.
so this leads to my question/confusion...in NLHE say e.g.5/10...minimum bet is $10..since the BB is a "forced raise" from the SB (in this case $5 more) should't the first raise be allowed to be $5 (so raise from $10 to $15)??? or does it have to be double any previous raise???
hope i was of help, and hope you can now answer my question..

On your NLHE question, I've always seen (however, I've said that before. LOL ) and used the rule, " A raise must be at least equal to the previous bet or raise." IE. Bet was $10, your raise would be $10 more at the minimum making a total bet of $20. So, in the first round since the force bet is the BB, the call to the next person would be $10 with the min raise of $10 more.
Again, I could have mis-read this somewhere too. LOL So, I would wait until others reply to get some more validation.
EDIT: copy/paste error...
