Rules - What Would You Do?

Live hand from a game I was invited to this weekend.

JoJo was dealing - and I was in the hand as one of the players. I will not give you specifics as to which hand was mine. Two players left in the game - both get paid. Stacksizes are close. I believe that there was a preflop raise, but neither of us was pot comitted ta this point.

Player A has A3
Player B has 57

Jojo has been dealing 2 decks to us in order to keep it moving. We had been playing decent headsup poker, so it was taking a while.

For speed - he was dealing the entire hand (flop, turn, and river) cards out and we were flipping them as needed. Thay way, as soon as we were done with a hand - the other deck was ready.

Flop is A52

Allin - call. No flush draws possibe.

Now the hard part, JoJo returns to paying attention to the game as we now could end it. He burns and deals the turn from the deck. Problem is, there was already a "turn" card dealt but not flipped up.

He dealt a 5 - giving one of the players trips.

OK - what would you do?

I will share later what we did, but I believe it was the fair thing to do, and everyone involved was cool with it (there were NO hard feelings whatsoever).

The unflipped card should be flipped.

Re: Rules - What Would You Do?

I don't think any scenerio should involve using the 5 that was flipped as everyone clearly understands that this card was flipped in error AND the appropriate turn card is still available.

If no betting took place after the 5 was mistakenly flipped, I think it would be in the best interest of the game (and the right decsision) to use the appropriate turn card. If betting occurred after the 5 hit the table then more thought may be required.

Not that it's the reason for the error but I personally don't like the pre dealt flop, turn and river thingy...and I sometimes request that it not be done.

Edit: added missing words

Re: Rules - What Would You Do?

The 5 is junk as there is already a proper card out there. Too bad for the guy who hits trips.

Re: Rules - What Would You Do?

I voted that the pre-dealt card should be used, as that was already understood. This is just one example of why you should never "pre-deal" a hand. Seriously, how much time does it really save? Too much potential for problems. Deal the way you're supposed to deal.

I agree on all points that ky70 has made. The "pre dealt" turn card must be used.

Yeah this one is pretty cut and dry.

Re: Rules - What Would You Do?

Pre-dealing the community cards encourages rabbit hunting. If that's the case you can easily lose more time than you gain by laying them out.

Another thing is that if any cards are marked, willfully or accidentally, they are easier to spot when they are laid out on the table. Burn cards are used specifically to minimise the risk of gaining information from any marked cards.

Re: Rules - What Would You Do?

No doubt - the layed out cards are the ones that should be played.

Re: Rules - What Would You Do?

In this example it is fairly clear and simple - you finish the hand using the cards that were already layed out. The betting was done - so seeing the 5 does not change the betting outcome and the hand should be played out using the original turn and river.

This is why I do not like dealing the cards out before it is time.

If the betting was not done then seeing the 5 (or any card) could make a change in how the hand was played, I think the proper thing is to take the unturned cards including the 5 and reshuffle and then deal out the turn and then the river. I have not read up on this in Roberts rules, but that is my gut feeling.
