Split Pot

This one confuses me a little. Can someone give me a few examples of when a pot is split?

Pretty simple. Any time two or more people hold the same hand.

Say two people are in the hand, one with and the other with

The board comes

Both players have two pair, Q's and 10's w/ K kicker.

Could also be if the board is the best hand, for example:

One holds and another holds

and the board comes

The best hand is the straight on the board.. split pot..

Of course, those are just two randomly created possibilities of a million ways a pot can be split..

Re: Split Pot

If you and your opponent, at the showdown, each hold 10-8

and the board shows

10-8-K-4-4

Assuming neither of you made a flush, you both would hold two pair (10s and 8s) with a K kicker, and would split the pot.

I hope that answers your question.

Re: Split Pot

You'll get a bit more help with this type of thing if you post it down in the "Home Games Section".

In short the best 5 card hands wins the pot. Sometime two players can have the same hand because they share a card of the same rank that makes that hand or the board may be the best (both players would than play the board).

Examples:

Player A = AcKc
Player B = 7s2h
Board = 5h5c5s9h9s

Both players have 5s full of 9s (they play the board)

Player A = Ks10s
Player B = 5h10c
Board = 7c8s9hJh3c

Both players have a Jack high straight (they each play their 10 only)

Player A = Ah2c
Player B = Ac4s
Board = JcQs9h6c5d

Both players have Ace high with both of their kickers being lower than the other four cards on the boards.

The simplest thing to do is see what each players best 5 card hand is. If they have the same hand, they split.

Re: Split Pot

anytime two or more people in a hand hold the same winning hand..

ie:

both hold the same high card where the best kickers are on the board:

player 1:
player 2:
flop:
split the pot

both hold the same pair w/ a kicker that can't beat the board:

player 1:
player 2:
flop:
split the pot

both hold the same 2 pair w/ a kicker that can't beat the board:

player 1:
player 2:
flop:
split the pot

both hold the same trips w/ a kicker that can't beat the board:

player 1:
player 2:
flop:
split the pot

both hold the same straight:

player 1:
player 2:
flop:
split the pot

both hold the same flush:

player 1:
player 2:
flop:
split the pot

both hold the same full house:

player 1:
player 2:
flop:
split the pot

both hold the same quads, same kicker:

player 1:
player 2:
flop:
split the pot

also if a straight/royal flush appears on the board or anytime the board is the best hand, the pot is split. these are just some examples, hope they help...

Re: Split Pot

Thank you hunterking for those great examples. The basic ones with the player A and player B holding the same 2 cards I always understood but it was the examples where the board held the bigger kicker that I did not understand.

Thanks again
