Judge to make ruling in SC Poker case

There maybe a change coming to the laws here is SC. Today Jeff Phillips, a 2004 WSOP final table poker player and lawyer is arguning in court that Texas holdem is a game of skill not luck.

I can't help but think though that in a free country it wouldn't even matter.

What happens when the court rules that the outcome of a poker hand is a combination of skill and chance?

I don't know but as it stands now almost any game involving cards or dice are illegal in SC. This case at least gets the skill part out there and may force some folks to realize the law is outdated and needs to be changed. I really dont want my tax money spent on midnight police raids of kitchen table poker games.

Update.. Looks like Mike Sexton testified at the trial.

Ruling next week in S.C. poker case - Local / Metro - The State

Looks like the Judge agrees that it takes a degree of skill. It's still not clear if this will help out the defendants, but it may have a positive outcome for changing the state laws.
