Does this sound legit?
New, legal home games are always exciting, but something about this seems a little off. Thoughts?

doesn't ring any bells. that said, i simply wouldn't play a game if i didn't know someone there or was at least referred there by someone.

Ditto...I couldn't imagine open advertising leading to a safe game. I either know someone at a game or hear "word of mouth" from other players I trust.

LOL, I love the part about the booze, etc. all being free. Can you say 'how big is the rake?'
Are raked games legal in the DC area?

Re: Does this sound legit?
I'm willing to say that no, a rake is still illegal. I live close to DC and it seems that the only card games available (besides your buddies house) are the 'Private Clubs' that generally require membership and are technically for charity.

Re: Does this sound legit?
Sometimes smaller places like this can take a rake and donate to charity, making it a charity game. There was a place around here that did that and was legal (at least they said it was), and they took about a quarter of the rake for the house and donated the rest to charity. They probably didn't record the part they took for the house.
Now that I think about it, that place isn't around anymore...

We've got places like that too, but the charities sell food and drink to earn extra money at the events. The free booze thing makes me think this isn't any charity.

Re: Does this sound legit?
I saw this on Craigslist too and thought it odd. I never go anywhere that I don't have a good friend vouch for. I don't need a game that bad... I want to enjoy my time playing poker, not worry about who is there, if the money is going to come out right in the end, or if cops are going to show up (or robbers), either one could be bad with a rake...
