I agree that we may not be hearing the whole story and we may not be talking about a group of old cronies getting together for a low stakes friendly game...

They were playing in an auxillary building behind the house and one player had a gun. I mean don't all shady games take place in barns and storage buildings? If this was a .25/.50 game they would've played it the kitchen, and they wouldn't have pistols on them. |

This guy’s “storage building” is probably a lot nicer than my poker room at home. |

Granted we don't have the whole story, but once they start shooting then the stakes, as they were, have been raised. I say good job to the guy who stopped the bandits. Way to not be a victum.
BTW some people carry a gun all the time, not just to thier poker games. www.thehighroad.org |

I'm not a tough guy, and carrying a piece doesn't make me more of a man. It just gives me a chance that I wouldn't have if I weren't.
Although I don't make a habbit out of taking my piece to my regular games. Stories like this make me reconsider. Even if I did carry. Nobody would know about it except for me and my wife.

I don't plan on running a high stakes game, probably going to be .25/.50 NL or say $2/$4 limit maybe a little higher on the limit game. So I doubt we would even be considered for being robbed as the risk return would be bad.
One suggestion, but if poker is illegal they you are out of luck. I'm sure you could find an off duty police officer to protect your high stakes game, around here it would probably run you $25 to $35 an hour, but for a very high stakes game that would be chump change for the comfort level it would provide. Again if poker is illegal than this would not work. Also, even if it was legal the officer might have trouble get approved to work it but its always possible.
