Re: 'New poll finds nearly 75% of Americans oppose ban of Internet gambling'

But you should know the odds going in if you are any kind of serious gambler. At least when it comes to BJ/Craps & VP. Some VP machines pay back a theoretical 100%+ (fullpay dueces wild for instance) and can be spotted easily by looking at the paytable.

Who would tax these sites to help schools, etc? They aren't under US jusrisdiction. Usually Costa Rica or Turks & Caicos. And they certainly aren't going to do anything to hurt their customers. Much to their dismay, the US government does not actually have jurisdiction over the entire world.

Online poker, you have a chance at your own odds to win or lose. But in casino games your living to house rules and a high house win percentage.

They should ban casino games, Or at least make the Online sites pay a Fee to helps schools, or poor people eat, or something..

kinda OT, But im bothered by all these ban threads :\

Please clarify: are you bothered by the content of the threads ("I hate the stupid moves to ban this honorable game!") or by the fact that these threads exist ("I don't want to hear about another ban, ever!")? If it's the former, I feel your pain. If it's the latter, not hearing about the things that can have a direct impact on your pasttime/hobby/lifestyle may be comforting, but it doesn't help you to do anything about the threats - which is the point of my posting them in the first place.

I did offer in the past to not post these, if they weren't welcomed here. I've gotten feedback that says they're welcomed, but I don't mind stopping if more readers feel the way you do.

Re: 'New poll finds nearly 75% of Americans oppose ban of Internet gambling'

And just how does the US Congress believe it's going to control an on-line industry that NOT ONE of the businesses are located in the United States?

They can ban having them based here, but I can't see it even being possible to prevent people from any type of on-line gambling.

One way is to threaten/put pressure on/coerce ISPs to block sites. And in doing so, the hypocrite congresscritters will mimic Chinese officials who they have criticized for doing the same thing. But since when has that stopped politicans from doing something stupid?

You are SO right about politicians doing stupid stuff...

I personally think it's hilarious when the US treats the internet like its "theirs" and they threaten that they can do whatever they want with it, let alone actually control it.

That child (the 'net) has grown up, left home, and is now plowing through downtown Tokyo using subway trains as dental floss. You can never go home again.

The internet belongs to NO ONE and no matter how smart the US Gov geeks think they are, there is always going to be some 15 year old kid in India with a wireless laptop that can break the codes and re-route 1000 IP addresses back through the high orbit sattelite while picking the dirt from between his toes with the other hand.
