A Sabina, Ohio, poker den was targeted last weekend in an effort to shut down illegal Texas Hold'em games, it was revealed by a local NBC news network, NBC4i. Armed with a search warrant, a team of police officers arrested 17 men at the poker den, which authorities claim has been fronted by an auction house for the last year. Of the 17 arrested, only the organizer could be sentenced to jail. Poker is considered illegal in Ohio when the house takes a cut of the pot.
"We don't have a big problem with a card game, but we have a problem if somebody's making a profit off of it illegally," said Sabina Police Chief Gerald "Bud" Strickland.
Investigators have confirmed the each of the 17 men arrested paid $15 to play and that a cash box was found on the premises containing about $1,500.

What's the vig on a $15 game? Maybe $5 on the high end? So the house made a lousy $85 on the game and that's worth getting a search warrant and sending an armed team of officers to the place?
Bud needs to find bigger fish to chase. . .

I'll sleep safer tonight.

Also, why were the other 16 arrested if only the organizer can be charged?!

" attempting to have a good time in the confines of a private domicle where no one gets hurt and their there on their own volition."

Also, why were the other 16 arrested if only the organizer can be charged?! | I think it means that each of the 17 people paid $15 each or $255 in total vig. Maybe they payed by the hour or session. I think the cash box had the player's money in it. Still for $255 bucks, doesn't seem like a good use of time. Heck that's the cost of one traffice ticket in L.A. It probably cost 10x for the manpower to raid the place! What a joke. |
