Chips: 7 | | | Poker Night Etiquite I frequently host games since I am the only one in the group with a table and enough room. I have around 4 people every other week over. But they usually don't bring anything with them. Then ofcourse they get hungry/thirsty, etc.
Now the ones who drink bring their own beer, but I think I shouldn't have to provide soda and chips all the time.
How do you think I should bring this up without upsetting the guys? |

Chips: 81 | | | I believe it's poker etiquette to provide food & drink for players, but I understand sometimes you just might not have the funds, or whatever reason you have. Simply suggest to them that maybe you could switch off who brings chips & soda from week to week?
That or you could all agree to take a certain amount out of the prize pool to buy supplies (of course everyone would have to completely agree with that) |

Chips: 37 | | | I usually pick up a bag of doritos or something and a couple of bottles of soda for my weekly game... and I tell everyone that if you want beer or booze or a special snack... bring it w/ you. During the night people will get hungry and we'll all split a pizza and wings or whatever... Noone has ever had a problem w/ bringing their own stuff.
If it begins to cost you too much, just ask everyone who plays to kick in a dollar or two to cover your costs or bring their own stuff. I think that people appreciate a place to play and will cough up a couple of bucks for it. I'd say that it'd be etiquette to provide everything if you were raking the pots, otherwise it's fine. |

Bingo.
For that reason I can't imagine going to anyone's house for any reason, other than being invited over specifically to eat, and expect to be provided with food.
Unless the host specifies, "Punch and Pie" to be served, then I'm figuring that I can have tap water in a paper cup if I come over empty handed. Or I should eat before I get there.
At my games, I might buy a bag of pretzels and a box of Goldfish and put them out for the players, but the moment ONE of them says, "Hey, why don't you bust out the snacks like you did last time?" will be the time that if that player wants to return, he is on snack duty for the next game he wants to play in. |

Chips: 2,017 | | | If you have a small group of guys coming over for your games, have the big winner bring snacks and drinks for the next game. You could start it off the first game. We've been doing this awhile now and it works out great. The past winners are usually generous and we now have an abundance of snacks/drinks. Make it fun by giving the winner a bounty like chip and remind them on the next invite that it is their turn to bring the grub. |

When we used to rotate the game, the host provided food. Since I became the full-time host about a year and a half ago, there's no way I could continue that. Most of my guys are real good about bringing their own beer or tossing a few bucks my way to tap into my kegerator. I'd love to do something more, but I don't think it's right that I should have to front all of that extra expense 20 some weeks a year. |

Chips: 14,330 | | I host the majority of the home games for my group (tonight we're breaking in the Pharaoh's, sweet!) Normally we just munch for the first half hour or so and spread out whatever snacks the others have brought. Lately I've been picking up a few pizzas for everyone to eat (as long as my family has had their fill). I usually do make it BYOB as that can get expensive with my group.
My home game is a collection of my friends from work so it's not a game where I'm trying to maximize my return so I usually spend about $50 each time. Then of course I've got the chips, Kem cards, Poker table, etc. It's not about the money for me but I understand those for whom it is.
