It's always nice when pocket aces hold up

I just love it when pocket aces actually end up winning a hand So often they end up getting beat by strange cards.

Last night in one of our games (NLHE, $5 tournament buy-in), I was heads up with my friend. He started out with about 3x the chips I had, a few hands later I had about 3x what he had He wasn't exactly short-stacked, but he decided to push and go all-in preflop, after my reraise of T5000 (I think blinds were only 200/400 or 300/600 at that point, T40000 total chip count on the table). Turned out he had pocket tens, and I had the aces. Nothing exciting on the board, and I ended up winning that game. Fun stuff.

After that, it was getting late, but we still had a few beer left each. So we ordered some pizza, and started a small cash game with the change we had left in our pockets. Maybe $3 each. I had been pushing to try that every now and then for a while, and we had fun. Would be great to play while we're waiting for everybody to show up for a game, or to play for a while after a game when it's late.

On another note, I think my friends are getting hooked on clay chips! I brought along my samples, they loved the Paulsons I had. They were impressed with the faux clays and Sopranos, too. So much better than dice chips, which is what we use - that is, until my 400 ASMs get here

That is good. I cann't say the same for myself last night. I had pocket A's vs pocket Q's and allin preflop. No A's came out but damm river was a Q.

In another one I had pocket K's vs KQ and allin too. Again no K show up and turn and river was Q runner, runner. I hate Q's.

After the hand, he told me that he figured I just had AK or AQ with my big raise, he wasn't expecting me to have AA I figured that if I went all in first, he would have folded.

Re: It's always nice when pocket aces hold up

A couple of nights ago i was playing with some buddies when a bad AA beat came. I wasnt in the hand but we were 2 handed goin into the flop. Comes A 2 2. Both go all in after big raises pf. Turns out it was AA vs. 22. I think my friend was about to cry.

Unhappy Re: It's always nice when pocket aces hold up

Just had my game.... and i get the aces. The blinds are at first level and i'm before the small blind, so i just call cos i really don't want to raise and scare ppl out. Le flop comes

Q-5-3 rainbow.

I check, small blind checks and big blind makes it 500. I call, and small folds. I can't really put him on the queen, would you bet it? Turn turn comes 2, and he bets another 500, and i call again. The river comes Q !!!!!! I check, and that's probably a debatable move. He bets 1500.... is he buying it, or does he have a Q? I eventually call, and he has 5- rag, so two pair for him but higher for me. He compliments my play, but i felt it was risky.

It's just interesting playing aces this way.... AND SCARY.

I'm curious as to how you are checking before either of the blinds have acted on the flop/turn/river...

Yeh sorry i got this a bit muddled up, it was late posting.

Yeh i was on the button, so what you read above is all pretty much wrong. Sorry about that, hope you can still get the basis of the story.

Yeah, I figured this had to be the case, but I couldn't help thinking maybe you guys played some weird variant of holdem.
