Does anyone have experience with having a home game or a tournament outside? We've got a tournament coming up and while the advantages of being outside are clear it's hard to guess at the negatives. How much did wind effect your playing? Would you advise against playing outside or is it no big deal? |

One time was in a backyard and the other was in a garage (with garage open). Both went smooth and the wind was never a factor BUT this "windy city" could probably wreck an outside game on the wrong day/night. |

..Then someone dropped a couple of chips off the table & they rolled under the deck (very difficult to get under there).
That was the end of that. |

In our neighborhood during the warmer months we have a game at the neighborhood swim and tennis pavillion, only going inside when it is cold enough to have to wear a coat. The pros are no one has to clean house, cigar smoking is not a problem, and noise does not bother anyone else in the house. The only downside may be related to rain, the pavillion has a roof, but sides are open to the elements. All in all, everyone seems to like using the pavillion.

Chips: 5,789 | | | I played outside once and the biggest issues were lighting and bugs. We started earlier in the day without any problems but as it started to get late, we hooked up some lights so folks could see. First problem, we didn't have enough lights. Second problem, the lights attracted the bugs. If you moved the lights farther away so the bugs were not as big an issue then lighting was more of an issue. Luckily, it wasn't too windy that day or I imagine that would have been a problem. One advantage, as people busted out they could go play horseshoes. |

Chips: 1,513 | | | We have always played in my garage. In the winter there is a woodstove to stay warm. In the summer.....well, you sweat. It gets hot in PA, and I really don't think an airconditioner would do a whole lot of good in the garage.
Bugs (To some degree) can be solved with Tiki Lights or citronella.
I have two large, 4 bulb, flourescent lights inside to light the place up, and two large flood lights for outside.
Big postitive---spills on the floor or ground don't mean doodly, oh btw I don't allow drinks on the table. |

Chips: 684 | | | I suppose the biggest concern might be wind gusts. I'd hate for a gust of wind to flip my hole cards just as I was moving all-in with the nuts. I guess a hefty card cover for everyone could prevent this from happening, though. |

Chips: 1,728 | | I couldn't believe it but I walked by a Starbucks yesterday afternoon and there were three people at a little table outside, playing Hold'em without chips (or money). | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
