My First No Limit Holdem Cash Game

I played my first no limit holdem cash game last night and tripled my money!

We all bought in with $10 in chips and the blinds were $.25/$.50.

For the first couple hours I had crap hands, but managed to pull off some bluffs with aggressive bets.

The two big hands I had were:

- calling an all in bet with an AQ suited. I won with Ace high.
- raising aggressively with bullets and calling another players all in bluff.

I also showed a couple of my aggressive bluff hands which I think helped.

re 20 big blinds: If I'm sitting at that table, all of my money is going in preflop when I have something I want to play. There is no room to maneuver on the flop, let alone the turn. Try a $25 buyin next time, at least that's 50BB.

re AQs: heh, well you have to know your opponent to make that call but it's probably somewhat safe in a loose game.

I agree with everything smoore wrote. With a 50 BB and a $10 buy-in, your basically only giving yourself 20 bets. I do the same cash game with a $20 buy-in, and we can re-load once we're under $5.

Id either raise the buy-in or maybe go with .25/.25 blinds. People will bock at first, but having the same blinds isnt such a bad idea.

Congrats on the win. I agreed with above. $10 max buyin with $.25/.50 blind is just too small. I would go with 100 times the BB.

Just my devalued Cdn. $.02 worth.

The only reason we started with $10 was because we were using quarter chips and didn't want to start with more than 40. If we had denominations we woulda started with $20.

RE: AQ, this was a call against a guy who was short stacked and I knew he had a weak hand.

RE: AQ, this was a call against a guy who was short stacked and I knew he had a weak hand.
It's a good call at the right time
I made the same all in call with AQ offsuit last night in a tourney with only 3 players left. We were both short stacked (I had him covered slightly). , and I put him on KQ or lower, no pair. This is about 2 hands after he had doubled me up (I was super short stack). So figured a little tilt maybe.
He had J10
Won the hand and then the tourney
Congrats on the win.. bet you wished your buy-in was $50 now

In that case your read demanded the call, good job.

[hayakumode] AQ is a betting/raising hand, but rarely a calling hand, esp. to all-in. But your situation made calling the correct play. [/hayakumode]
