the issue of stacking bets is one of my pet peeves. most of the players in my local game didn't understand what I was talking about....until they actually sat down in a professional cardroom.
It seems homegame trip to the local cardroom (if you have one) can cure some of the frustrations of "knowing" the right way. It's amazing how many of my friends didn't even know you could play poker in Vegas (much less the LA cardrooms 200 miles closer) until the WPT.
things I hate about my local "neighbor's" tourney:
--split between limit and NL. 1st part limit(rounds 1-5), 2nd part NL(rounds 6-
--rebuy schedule means that you only get 5 BB bets at the time of rebuy. no add-ons.
--dead-button/dead-blind disagreements all the time. house places more importance on the button moving instead of the (rather large) blinds that are skipped.
--players are NOT moved tables until the tables are combined. this is the worst one! generally, we have 20-24 players, split between 3 tables. the last time I played, we had 22 ppl...8, 7 and 7. When it got down to two tables, table 1 had 6 players left, so table 2, when pared down to 4 players....STOPPED PLAYING!!!....i was like "wtf?" but it was my first time playing with a group that had been playing for several years. The rule was, we played until there were 8 players remaining for the final table. The idea of moving a player from table 1 to table 2 was preposterous to them, along with the hand-for-hand idea. This was a T2000 tourney, and the blinds at this point were 500-1000 and it STILL WASN'T NL!!!
things I like about that tourney:
--decent payouts (buy-in and rb were $100)
that's it. I played 3 times and won't play again...too many disagreements for a 45 minute drive.
