The stupidest thing I've ever seen with the moving button rule:

I'm supposed to be BB, but SB and BUTTON are getting up to seat in a tournament. I get the button, post a live BB and a dead SB (have to post all my blinds). As I'm explaining to the floor that I got screwed out of two hands and the best thing for me to do would be to sit out until the BB returned to me, the new SB says, "YEAH! I just posted a dead SB and a live BB too, I should just sit out!"... everyone at the table says.... "YEAH!" and the floorperson is starting to look a little nervous.... anyway I get distracted by the large boobed cocktail waitress and the hand gets underway. I didn't even bother to look at my cards, I just raised blind since the table was now 6 handed, I'm on the button and I already had a BB + SB out there, there were three callers and the other two blinds who both had a dead SB. Leering at the floorperson like the drunk that I am garnered me a snide look and a cold shoulder for the rest of the night. Stupid rule in this case, especially in a 2/4 limit game... jeez. And of course, magoo won the hand. I think I tripped up on the turn or something

I guess we do the blinds/button totally messed up at my home game. We just keep them moving, even if someone busts out. So, someone might miss being the big or small blind if someone busts out. We just skip the person who busted out and if he was supposed to be the small blind, the person to his left is now the small blind. Probably not the fairest way to play (since people can miss being the big blind), but it seems to work okay, and it's not confusing at all since the blinds/button just keeps moving around the table.

It might be easier to skip people, but it's definitely not fair.

In a low-stakes home game, maybe people don't care, but that wouldn't fly in a tournament.
