Chips: 1,581 | | | You know smoore I would tell all the guys to take a hike, but then there wouldn't be anybody to play with and I have invested time and money into my hobby and I can't justify throwing it all away!! |

Are these complainers noobs too? At least if these were old-timers who are used to playing old-school ways, I could deal with it a little. But if these are complete newbies to hold'em, where do they get their weird-ass ideas as to how it should be played? Not in the card clubs, not from TV, not from books. . . where? I host a mostly newbie game monthly and nobody questions my authority--there's only one other guy who has played in clubs as much as I have, and he knows the deal, and the newbies know that they are getting the true scoop from me, so there's no arguments. Maybe you should print out some rules/tournament blinds schedules from the big casinos to show these guys that you are simply trying to provide them the most fair, enjoyable, and professional home tournament experience possible. |

Chips: 1,861 | | | Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying to boot them from the game. Really though, who's game is it? it's yours. I have yet to tell someone, "Well, you don't have to play with us if you don't like the structure." and have them walk out the door. It usually shuts them up, although they may grumble a little bit. Yes, you should definitely listen to your players and take thier ideas into consideration but it's your stuff, your house and your game.
By the way... what is the blind schedule and starting stack that this guy thinks isn't agressive enough? Lets face it though, he's a luck monkey and apparently he knows it.

I'm generally open to my players' ideas and I've shown myself to be fair in ruling situations, so they usually give me the benefit of the doubt. That said, when the grumbling does reach a point where I'm sick of it, I break out my line and that indicates to the players that discussion is closed.
It's a fine line to walk, but I agree with Smoore. Find a structure that you like and that is acceptable to most of your players and then just make it known that this is the way things are going to be. I'd hate to lose players, but I think that is unlikely. If it came to it though, I'd rather do that than deal with endless bitching every time I'm trying to enjoy myself with a night of cards. |

Last level applies until there are two players remaining.
Any suggestions/thoughts are appreciated!! | First, look at the huge incentive to play that the SB gets- close to 9:1 almost every level with antes. There's almost nothing you can fold, with all of that money in the pot already, unless you have a number of raises.
As for complaints about structure- I think that's just a curse of hosting tourneys. I've been tweaking my House Special (NLHE freezeout) for months now, trying to get correct the ending time and complaints about different stages of the tourney ("too fast at the beginning!" "Too much of a crapshoot at the end!") |

Chips: 1,483 | | | My game:
T7500 25min blinds except when we color up
Starting chips:
20-$5 20-$25 19-$100 6-$500 2-$1000
This gives everyone a nice sized stack of chips to start. And it allows everyone to play a while. Well, almost everyone.
ante/SB/BB
5/25/50
10/50/100
20/100/200
40/200/400 for 12 minutes
5 minute break and color up
50/250/500 for the remaining 13 minutes
100/500/1000
200/1000/2000
300/1500/3000 for 13 minutes
5 minute break, color up to nothing but 500's and 1000's
500/2500/5000 for 12 minutes
500/3500/7000
500/4000/8000
I tell any new people that don't like this system, that they do have the option to get up and leave. No one has left yet, and when the games over, everyone ends up liking it. The games usually take around 3 hours. |

The biggest complainer is a younger guy who has been playing for a few more years than me, never hold em, just cash dealer's choice games. |

Lets face it though, he's a luck monkey and apparently he knows it. | We started out with 5/10 blinds, 15 min, with a stack some where around 800 or so. It has been awhile since i used it, and cannot seem to find the actual sheet that I typed to go with that game. If I find it I will post it. |

SO are you saying the SB level is a good thing or a bad thing with the ante's?? I actually modified this a bit more to the following. How does this structure look??
Ante Small Big
-- 25 25
-- 25 50
-- 50 100
25 100 200
25 200 400
50 300 500
50 500 750
100 750 1000
100 1000 2000
Is this too much?? It feels to me like it is going to be really fast??!!!?? I am leaning towards 20 min levels, what do you guys think??
Let me know what you think. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
