We typically do NLHE tournaments for bragging rights (i.e. free or prizes) and our cash games for 25˘/50˘ blinds, minimum $20 buy-in, unlimited re-buys. Keep the cash flow coming in, we always say!

For the NLHE cash games, we bust out:
500 -25˘ chips,
400 - 50˘ chips and
100 -$1.00 chips.
(Jackpot Casino coin-inlay, they are OK, but the whole set of 3000 of them was pretty cheap for that quantity of chips, and I don't freak out when one disappears after a game.)

This represents $425.00 which is MORE than we have ever come close to playing with at one table of 10. (The closest we have come is all the quarter and 50 centers in play and one stack of 10 $1 chips on the table.)

Actually the $1.00 chips are almost rarely used, but you'd be surprised how fast 25˘ chips get counted out with a good action table. Typically we have the whole 500 - 25˘ set in play and half the 50˘ racks.

I've offered to get out higher denomination chips, but almost all the players prefer to have mega stacks infront of them even if they are smaller amounts per chip.

As speakeasy mentions, everyone prefers tournaments due to the set buy-in and eliminating players/crowning a champion. Plus it's what's on TV. I also keep track of everyone's standings, so that added competition level exites people too.
This is an old thread but it looks to have picked up right away again so I'll quote SpaceMonkey from a month ago. I can completely relate to hostilities at Omaha/8. We had to lower limits to 0.50/1 instead of 1/2 when calling Omaha just because of the bitching and even then the bad players would either stay in WAY too much, lose a lot, then ***** or fold the whole time and ***** the whole time. Now it's amazing - everyone loves Omaha. Fortunately they haven't improved a ton so it's my money maker and I can just try to break even in the other games all night.

Surprisingly my group is all cash game now. We used to start around 6, play 2 hours for cash, then cash out for a tournament at 8. A side game would start on some nights and cash would come back out at 10:30 on other nights but often the tourney was the end of the night.

The good players (3-4) want to play cash games only now and I'm getting frustrated about not being able to play tournaments and NL.
