Why do you host?

because no other games in your area available so you have no choice to start your own game?

because you love having people over and like to entertain?

showing off your gear?

other reasons??

curious to see what you all say to why you spend all that money on tables, chairs, chips, cards etc for other people to use.

And by starting my game, there are now others who host games. I run every other thursday, and one of my regulars runs the alternating thursdays. We're building a small poker community, slowly, one fish at a time.

Re: Why do you host?

When I started the games around here were all helter skelter and I hated playing in them. So when I learned enough about how it was done in the casino I started having monthly tournaments and cash games because then everyone would know how to play whenever they went to a casino and wouldn't feel like they were newbs...

Now all my buddies use a template I've developed to run their games. And they all know most of the Roberts Rules of Poker by heart as to how it pertains to tournaments and cash game play.

Re: Why do you host?

Those are pretty good reasons. Plus you can have a few extra beverages and don't have to worry about the drive home! A nice little bonus. (I know that's one of the main reasons on of my buddy's hosts).

Re: Why do you host?

I do it because I like the appreciation people get by having a nice table and gear. Its just that feeling that its 'yours' at the end of the night when people leave. you have all your nice gear sitting there.

Plus I love playing so the more games the better. In my group of players pool, 2 others host so we just alternate hosting duties. I try to have it every other weekend.

Re: Why do you host?

You sound like my wife, she ask me that all the time.

Out of my freinds I have the most interest in poker and I am willing to devote the most time and energy into hosting. I first started playing at a couple of friends houses but they didn't have a clue what they were doing and we were playing at the dining room table. Most of them were married with children, so it disrupted their whole house when it was poker night.

So I took it upon myself to learn how to run a decent game, built a couple of poker tables, and upgraded our chips. I have a finished basement that can accomodate everybody so the rest of the house is not impacted. Now poker is always at my house.

Re: Why do you host?

I host games to entertain and play cards. It is also nice to hear comments about the gear and the basement as most of the regulars have been playing at the house from the kitchen table to having the basement finished. The other main reason is to get the guys together and have a great evening of fun.

Re: Why do you host?

Because I'm a sucker for punishment.

But to be a little more serious, mostly because I like to have peeps over and because I want to play poker, damn it.
