i'm so damn lazy. here goes:

the game was thursday nights at ash's (casinogosain). I'd not played there before or met any of the guys, and the game structure (.5-1 NLHE) was a bit big for me, so i was nervous. i did my classic "get there on time even though no one ever shows up on time maneuver" and an hour or so later we were under way.

ash has a sweet set up:

custom ASM's, a homemade table and copags to keep the game running. itunes and beer to keep the action coming. we had 7 to play, and the action was furious.

to describe the game as laggy might be an understatement. most pots were raised and called in a couple of spots. there are a couple of guys that were just relentless, betting every street until someone backs down, and often were the times a 50-60 dollar pot was taken down by top pair-mediocre kicker.

my problem: i'm pretty tight, on top of which the money is...consequential to me. i took a hit when i semi-bluffed the turn with a flush draw and bluffed the river with that same flush draw, and was down to half my starting stack, at about $30.

minutes later, the pot was raised to 3 and reraised to 10, and i look down at AKs. i raise all-in to 30, and am called in both spots, after much thought. to my delight, they turn over QT and KT. i put my rebuy back in my pocket. Triple up!

i worked on avoiding winners tilt (the old i'm on a rush, i'm going to play T8o), and sat tight. a few minutes later, ash raises (on my immediate right) and i check my cards, and have KK. if i were VVP, i woulda had to yell out "twin rulers! a real hand, a wired pair!" luckily i'm not VVP. i reraised to 10. ash called. the flop came T92 (i think), and ash immediately pushed. he had me just covered. i called (but not without pain and sorrow in my heart (cause i'm a big weakling)) and he turned over K9. i double up to 200 or so.

i didn't get any opportunities after that, although we played another hour or so. i tried not to go crazy calling raises with junk, and managed to hold on to my stack.

this game was crazy. ash is a solid, experienced player who went into lag mode after accumulating a good-sized stack. the other guys range from playing 30-60% of there hands, and are fighting to take the lead on every hand after the flop. i liked that i brought home money, but also know that i'll have to sit tight, and will probably take some pretty bad beats at this game.

i was invited back for next thursday; i hope to make it.

corrections or comments, ash?

nice game, as far as the poker Game unless you really know these guys are real bad and very loose I wouldn't like to push with AKs in front of a raise, reraise. Ohter than that nice game, sounds like alot of fun.

My thoughts.

You're report was accurate on all counts.

The game is super-LAGgy - and that's what makes it fun. You actually showed up on a good night, in which the two biggest donators made it to the game (Gaston and Luke - I don't mind posting their names because there is absolutely no way they will read/hear about this). Also, you picked up on the fact that Tom will hammer at any pot until people fold. He is actually pretty easy to take down - as he is incapable of post-flop play. I just didn't get my spot (You probably noticed how often he mentioned me stacking him in the past). Also, your take on my transition to LAG mode after building my stack is right also. I've found that these guys really resent it when I win game after game, so once I've doubled my buy-in, I'll call/push with crap. The sad thing is, my crap is often better than theirs. This game paid for my chips, table, cards, etc etc. Besides, as I've told them before, if I wanted to make money, I'd just go to Trump.

You are always welcome back.

-Ash

Sounds like when I have family in town and we break out the chips and play without money, 'just for fun.'

"Why did you call with Queen high?!"

"I don't know. Thought you might be bluffin'. Its not real money, anyway."
