You gotta use a little psychology on your group.... and figure out a way to get the job done. We also had a little resistance to a cut card, a second deck, burn cards, slower blind schedule in tournaments, etc, etc. Some of it is resistance to change itself and some of it is the rookies just wanting to keep things "simple", "friendly", "slow", etc. Anytime you introduce anything that will favor the winning(or honest) player, you have to be smooth about it. After a few weeks even the fish wouldn't have it any other way(cut cards, two decks, etc).
Short answer: Two decks decreases downtime during a game everyone is there to play and enjoy themselves playing - you just get more "play" with two decks(~ 5-10 hands an hour). After a while it's second nature for everyone. A cut card should be self explanitory, just tell them that when someone has KK - do they want that someone to be able to see an Ace on the bottom of the deck? It's like an exposed card every hand!
Poker is a game of luck vs skill through and through; the carefree players want to make poker a crapshoot, while the winning player wants to increase his edge/win rate. You just have to find a comfortable balance with your group.... while trying to move forward. |
