I hosted a 7 Card Stud tournament on the weekend with my regular group of friends. The stipulation was they had to bring 1 friend with them that could play Stud and age wasn't a factor.
Well I had 24 dudes in the basement; 10 of which were over 55, majority were 35 = 45 range and we had a couple of 18 year olds (twin Grandson's of one player). Game went off without a hitch and everyone had a great time. Started with 6k in chips and tourney lasted 5 hrs 19 min.
What I found ironic, was that the Twins were at the final table with myself, 2 senior statesmen, and 3 of the regs. I ended up finishing on the bubble, but the fact that I had a mix of different players was really nice for a change.
The kids could play and Stud is their favourite game. Grandpa was the first to teach them the game when they were little snot flickers; as he taught their father when he was young, and they were very well behaved and very polite to everyone in the tournament. Behaviour which is not common among a lot of 18 yr olds by the way. They ended up going all the way, and decided on chopping the pot between them; after 3rd place busted.
I guess that I must have witnessed something special in my basement. Gracious kids that are respectful, mind their manners, and all around solid poker players. No hoodies or sunglasses either!
Am I lucky, or what?
