Table stakes / No-limit / Pot Limit

In my weekly game we either play a $30-$50 no re-buy No limit holdem tournaments or $.50/$1 No-limit holdem. We occasionally will play an hour or two of 7-stud or Omaha Hi, but always wind up going back to holdem. We ALWAYS play table stakes.

A friend in NY plays pot-limit games - but not table stakes. The guys are stoners and he pretty much takes them, but in their pot limit games - they bet the pot and add scraps of paper to get totals. In each round they can still be bet the pot - see how big this could get. My friend walked away with several hunded cash and one of the guys paychecks signed over to him.

I would love to travel out there and take this game.

But - my personal rule - is don't play with what you can't lose - so this pot limit scares me.

The question - does anyone else out there play anything other than table stakes?

Thanks,

Matt

So, let me get this straight: These 'stoners' bet the pot, and then add scraps of paper? Interesing game.

Actually, when we play limit cash games, players have the option to 'pull back' if they can't match the bet with what they have on the table. (ie. bet is $5, you only have $1 in front of you. You toss in your $1, and pull $4 out of the pot. If you lose, you owe whatever you pulled back from your pocket).

I know the standard is table stakes, but that's just how our game evolved for some reason.
