Poker sayings

this is not exactly a poker saying but:

One of my buddies was talking about a 100 person tournament he went to in New Orleans (he came in second). On the first day there was a very aggressive player who built up a big stack, but when his luck turned, he was the first one eliminated.

Another buddy looked at him and said "a fast-shitting dog don't **** long."

I thought I would loose it.

Leonard

Rounders

One of my favorite exchanges in the movie:

Worm: In the poker game of life, women are the rake. They're the <bleep>ing rake.

Mike: What are you talking about? There is no saying.

Worm: Well, there oughta be.

Alot of our in-game lingo is from Rounders(sometimes paraphrased):

1. Feelin' satisfied now? 'Cause I can go on bustin' you up all night.
2. Check, Check, Check all night - he trapped me!
3. Does he look like a man beaten by jacks?
4. .... yeah, I'm sure you guys are talkin' about snow and perogies and *hit, but if you want to see this river card - stop speakin' **ckin' sputnic.
5. Mine has earthy tones and a smooth draw with enought kick for the high and the low(when you're the last one to showdown and you roll over the wheel in O/8 ).
6. This is like whiffle-ball.
I could go on forever with this list from Rounders alone - Rounders lines seem to come up quite a bit at our game.

Speaking of movies, poker, and one-liners.... if the radio isn't on we usually have The Big Lebouski, Rounders, Tombstone or Pulp Fiction DVD on the big screen.

Other than that I just let all the rookie comment's like: "but I had a pocket pair ot 5's(on the river with a K Q 10 8 2 - 3 suited - board)", "but I was soooted", "any two can win", and "did you see Gus Hansen last night?....", etc - go by without comment as not to educate too much.

Here are a few I got from my poker one-a-day calendar:

"I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it." - Thomas Jefferson

"Shallow men believe in luck. Strong men believe in cause and effect." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Fortune always will confer an aura of worth, unworthily; and in this world the lucky person passes for a genius." - Euripedes

I'm surprised nobody chimed in with his one yet...

"If luck weren't involved, I guess I'd win every one"
