Chips: 705 | | | A Sad Day I've been playing in my weekly game for about 4 years now. Its basically started as a collection of 10 or so guys who never knew each other until we all somehow found each other for a game.
Our youngest member is 23 our and oldest member was 72. Old Gordo would never miss a game, and would always sit in the seat closest to the door so he could go outside and smoke. We always joked around with him, telling him is social security number was "4" and asking him how it was to play cards with Jesus... and he always responded that "I always took money off that young pup".
In the past I've joked with him that he would probably die in his seat during a Thursday night game. As he never had children, and has no family left, he always said, "I couldn't think of a better way to go."
Unfortunately this is exactly what happened last night. My friend Gordon had a heart attack and passed away. At least I know that he was where he wanted to be, amongst a motley group of guys who had become friends playing cards.
Gordo may have chased too many back door flushes and gut shot straights... and when he hit them it frustrated the hell out of me... But he was a good, generous man who I never would have met if it wasn't for poker. Knowing him made my life richer. I'll miss him.
Thanks for reading. |
