Chips: 390 | | | How do you all deal with this? So, I finally had a game tonight after 5 weeks of no poker. Everyone (7 total) that showed up are really loose and mostly bad players, which is usually good for me. I took a few huge bad beats and busted out on the first tourney. Second one with 6 players I'm in decent position for 1st or 2nd when the second player busts out. It's after 1am and he's being a whiny little b**** to a guy who's drunk and still in and has me covered but owns the car 3 of them came in. He convinces him to start going all-in pretty much blind so they can leave. So, he starts raising and calling to the river blind on every hand to just literally donk off all of his chips so he could leave.
What happens doesn't even matter, but I can't frickin' stand when players do this. I tried to tell him if he wants to leave then just forfeit his chips and go. But, he wouldn't do that. And since I have no standing rule about this, I couldn't do anything.
I know exactly what the solution to this is and it'll be fixed in a few weeks when I get my cash set complete. The answer is one tourney and then a cash game after so they can pretty much leave when they want.
I really don't have a question, just venting mostly as this kind of behavior seriously puts me on monster-tilt.
EDIT - And I'm about 9 to 1 on never letting the punk who wanted to leave back. The only reason to invite him more is that he goes on serious tilt when he's losing. |

The game is different for everyone. We take it more seriously because it's not only a hobby but our form of entertainment.
I have a bunch of people who take it about 35% - 40% seriously to my 125%. Guys that take forever to call, who don't know what the action is, who string bets, makes under raises to the blinds.
I think pretty much everyone knows the gripe that it is when playing with others. I've said before to my players, "if you have to leave then we will blind your chips off. If miraculously you can make it back before they are gone , then you are still in the game. If you can't then sorry buddy. "
It's a cooler, next time choose wisely on the players. Personally I don't mind losing, even losing bad if it's to a cool guy and I lost where I know I should have lost. |

It does suck when people don't take the game as seriously as we do, but it's important to understand that those folks are what keeps poker alive and I think you get that based on your OP. Look in any public card room and you'll see plenty of purely social players contributing to the stacks of the other players as well as laying many bad beats on them. Our home game is about 25% super casual, 50% casual and 25% serious. We've learned to deal with it, basically by making it a primarily cash game with infrequent short tourneys. Works much better for this group.

If i want to play a tournament I go to the next cardroom and play an MTT...

Chips: 390 | | | Re: How do you all deal with this? Thanks guys, that's all pretty much the way I feel. Last night WAS a cooler for me as I got reminded the hard way that you can't 'outplay' calling stations (and they meet the definition by calling a 4x-5x raise with J2o or worse!!). They definitely don't understand the game to the same level that I do and I know that I'm still a beginner. I know these are the kind of people to keep in my game and most of the time it's a fun and social night even if I lose. That's the reason I have a home game, these guys are my friends and we usually have a good time. Last night was an unfortunate chain of events and everything went sour.
Normally, I can deal with the looseness and bad play and adjust my game to compensate. Last night just didn't go so well because I hadn't played in over a month, so I was over eager and donkish and then the crappy behavior of two of the players just sent everything over a cliff.
I'm going to make some changes to my tourney structure and I think I need to NOT have rebuys. Even though I've only been allowing one rebuy through the 4th level, I think it's bringing the game down and making it last too long. Besides, I'm going to want to get the cash game going as soon as possible and should get them used to no rebuys.
Anyway, thanks for chiming in and I already felt better after some sleep.

We're hoping to post here throughout the event so I want to keep folk's interest up. The current avatar is the kmalsom designed 3u 1k chip for the commemorative ASM set we had made for the meet-up. Glad you like it! Quote:

I've found that is usually a win-win for both players (unless your stack was 10x or more his stack- even then a semi chop)
I did it in a SnG in Vegas - we got down to HU and I had the other player outchipped about 2-3x. He was starting to go all in a lot. I simply offered a 60%-40% chop an he took it. It was only about 5-8% less than what I would have got if I won and we ended it right away.

J | We were still 4-handed at this point. My issue is that since he just wanted to leave and didn't care about winning or cashing he should have just left and forfeited his chips. Doing what he did destroyed the game and gave advantage to whomever was lucky enough to catch cards against his blind hands. It literally destroyed the game.
I always offer some sort of chop to the last two players in the tourney. |

Just a thought. Keep inviting him. Dead money doesn't win, right? |

He was trying to get the keys so that he could leave the drunk guy at my place and someone else would take him home. Just generally being a little punk and saying the drunk one should just keep going all-in. We had a little discussion at this point with me saying that was bull and he should either play or forfeit. The punk said I had no rule against being able to do that, so...
When he went to stand right behind him and they both looked at his hole cards I got pissed. He looks at me and says, "What, I didn't say anything. Is this bothering you?" in a total jacka^^ tone of voice. Of course I told him it definitely was bothering me and he went outside at that point.
About 15 min later drunk guy donks off most of his chips to one of the other remaining players and we're 3 handed. By this time, I'm just seeing red and am so pissed I don't even want to play.
It just ruined the whole night of what was supposed to be fun and relaxing. | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
