Just got an email from someone who is asking to bring his 2-year-old son to the all-day Sat poker game at my apt. He says he only gets his son on weekends, and, if now, he'll try to see if he can get someone to watch him. How can I say yes, but how can I say no? You know?
Thats ridiculous. Having kids, I'd say no fkn way and I think he would know internally that is the right decision for both parties.
Upon further thought, I would follow up with this guy and say he really should spend time with his son while he has this chance...it's not that he's a bad dad, he justs wants to have both his boy with him and be with his poker buddies. He's being a typical guy that's all. Sometimes wanting to do both makes one a little less clear headed about the perceived implications or priorities.
I'm glad to hear you said no. I assume you don't have kids around the same age as the one he asked to bring with. If you do that would be the ONLY rational thought as to why to bring his son along - so the kids ould play.
Good to hear that you said no. How did he think that was going to work -- set the kid down somewhere, say "STAY!" and "BE QUIET!", and ignore him for eight hours? [Watch out for falling giant beer cans. Love it!]
