Chips: 315 | | | poker felt / mat Hi,
I'm looking forward to hosting some home games. At the moment, I don't have room for a poker table so I am looking for some type of fabric that I can use to temporarily convert my work table-- top is wood, 44" x 6ft.
I'm guessing that straight felt or layout material won't be soft enough. Any recommendations? I was thinking about buying some neoprene, or maybe some of that rubbery mouse-pad material, if I could find a piece big enough. Do any vendors sell foam-backed felt that will make for a cushy playing surface? I've seen a couple products for sale-- bridge cloths, felt table cloths on ebay. But again, I am worried these may give a surface that is too hard for comfortable chip and card handling.
Any help would be very welcome. |

I used 1/4" plywood - I used 1/4" because it was what I had and I didn't want to add too much height to the table. I cut it 1.5" bigger than the table top for a little bit of overhang. I used closed cell foam and Suited Speed Cloth from "Your Auto Trim". The closed cell foam is important because it will not absorb spills. Now, 1/4" plywood will not sit perfectly flat so I used 4 carriage bolts and fender washers to "clamp" the 4 corners of the covered plywood to the table below it. There is no rail but it disassembles quite easily.
In fact it is apart right now due to a kitchen / living room renovation so the Christmas tree is down in the basement/office/poker room sitting where the poker table usually sits.
I'll look for some older pics and add them.
You can see the top of the carriage bolt in the back corner. Wicked old pic - I only have 3 of those 7 sets left.

Matthew-- nice table, and nice chips! (3 of 7 ain't bad.) Looks much thicker than 1/4"-- how thick is the foam? Looks like a 4x8 sheet or did you trim it? last question-- it's been a while since my woodworking days, but if I remember correctly most 1/4" plywood don't take staples very well. How did you attach the fabric?
kiwi-- That is EXACTLY what I am looking for. Thanks for the heads up.
I will pm TenPercenter and see if I can get one to hold me over until i can build one like Matthew's. |

I used 1/4" staples to secure the cloth - the staples are the ones that look like regular paper staples they are 1/2" wide, not the kind that are used in pneumatic staplers. I cut the top down to 70"x42" overhanging the base table by 1.5" .
Good luck.

Its a round folding table from Sam's Club, then I had a little old lady from my street make the cover. The fabric is moleskin and I pad it with a piece of green felt. I have 2 of these in the same design for 2 tables. I also have one for a rectangular table that doesn't fit as well, and is blue and red with tan edges. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
