vegas trip. need advise.

I didn't know where exactly to post this, so I thought I'd ask here.
My uncle is taking me to vegas in may for my birthday. Everything paid except the gambling. The hotel choice is not up to me, but I want to hear everyone's preference on where to play, eat, see etc. He has been many times, but I want to get some other opinions.

what is your favorite poker room? place to eat?

who has the best chips? tables?

who has good tournaments?

where is the easiest place to play/hardest?

I know it's in may but I'm already excited!!!
(yes I know I spelled advice wrong, but I can't change it now)

Re: vegas trip. need advise.

LOL BP - you should ask Ten to make this a sticky. Everytime I read the line about 'why would you want to go to a buffet for dinner' it cracks me up.

I play mainly low stakes NLHE and can highly recommend the Mirage Poker Room's $1/2 NL game as a very loose and profitable one.

I agree. BP definitely is a trust worthy source for Vegas info, I've thought this should be stickied myself. Add in the link to all vegas poker and everything you ever need to know is there.

Shea, it would help if you could tell us what type of poker/limits you like to play, and where you are staying (if you already know).

I've played poker at the Mirage, MGM, Wynn, TI, Excalibur and the Venetian. The Mirage has always been a favourite, just because it was the first place I played, but honestly it's a bit nitty. I really like their $1 chips there. MGM games are loose and plentiful, and I kinda like the room layout. It's right by the Centrifuge Bar though, so you get occasional thumping music that you may find annoying, if that kind of thing bothers you. I am in the minority as I was not crazy about the Wynn, but I think that I got a bad table and a snotty waitress, thus colouring my opinion. Treasure Island is a very small room with so-so games, but the tables sure are interesting. The Venetian was where we had the SCS, and it's a very spacious room that seems well-run and nice. The waitresses have weird uniforms that make them look frumpy instead of hot though, imo. The Excalibur has low limit games if you are penny pinching, including a 1-3 as well as a 2-6 spread limit game. They also have a wheel you spin if you get aces cracked or a high hand. Not my favourite, but popular among the more inexperienced poker players I've played with. The 1-2 game was a little tougher than at the MGM, but totally beatable.

I haven't seen La Reve, which actually isn't a Cirque show, but I hear any Cirque show is good. I have seen KA, and really liked it.

My husbands & his friends are a big fan of the sports book at NY NY - apparently there is a decent place to drink and watch the games - but I've never actually been there.

The restaurant in the Paris that has a patio is decent, and has a good view of the Bellagio fountains. The food wasn't OMG fantastic, but it was good and reasonably priced, and the service was very good. The server was really good about wine selection.

BP - the list is missing "Best Spa" Surely Mrs. BP can help with that?

Re: vegas trip. need advise.

Well I don't know where I will be staying, but I will hopefully find out in the somewhat near future.

1/2 no limit 2/4 3/6 limit will probly be my games.

I know it is a call fest when you play that low, but I'm not exactly rolling in money yet LOL. Hopefully after the trip

My brother liked the Mirage. Said it was one of the only places with a stud game that he could find.

My uncle likes excalibur. They stayed at the Luxor last time.

I just checked with Mrs. BP and she says Canyon Ranch at the Venetian is her favorite. I've never been to any spa in Vegas so I'll have to defer to her and amend my "Best of Vegas" list.
