Chips: 78 | | | anyone else become bored with poker? what did ya do? kinda a rambling and kinda looking for advice. has anyone experienced this before and what did you do?
i have recently become bored with playing poker. not enough that i wouldnt play any more but its just lost something.
i play in a regular 5/10 NLHE game every monday. game is loose, pots are big and it adds a substantial amount to my bankroll but its just getting old.
also play in a twice a month $200 NLHE tourney. doing ok standings wise (think im 6th out of 60) but have alot to work on in my tourney game. mainly accumulating chips early to sustain play near or at the final table. been working this out with limited success so far.
finding myself playing more low stakes online and the local 1/2 games and just playing like a madman to try and put some spice back into it. ok success but finding that dont really care if i lose my buy-in or not.
when im up in AC, have often found that id rather be playing BJ than be in the poker room.
im lost. is it time for a break? should i try different games?
any advice would be greatly appreciated. | | Sponsored Links | |

When I get bored of holdem, I usually try to switch games and play H/L Omaha, or get the guys to play dealer choice, we will do a NL $25 buy in, .25 and .50 blinds and your choice of games is Holdem, Omaha, Omaha H/L, Pineapple and Crazy Pineapple. I've gotten bored of playing online, any of the games. Even though I keep growing my account, I just don't enjoy it like playing live. Although the Thursday night Chiptalk tourneys are fun.

I know everyone's style, and everything has gotten routine, but I stop going because I'm the host. I've tried to mix it up, by trying a horse tournament, a deep stack tournament. I've suggested we try turning our game into a league. But the home game regulars are pretty resistant to change.
The one thing that has helped is just taking a week off, or finding another tournament to attend once in a while. |

(couldn't find anything bigger in Reno, and didn't take enough cash to Vegas) I know what you mean about not caring about your buy-in at that level, and I didn't drop nearly as far as you did coming from the 5-10 game. So I wouldn't recommend dropping to the 1-2 to find excitement. For me at least it was quite the opposite.
I haven't had time for the long drive and long sessions in my regular game lately so I have been really enjoying playing small crap shoot tourneys. I have just been challenging myself to outplay certain players every time I go and looking for a different angle to challenge myself other than just winning. Side bets with other players have added to the fun level again. |

Guess you call that a vacation, you come back a little sharper and just start wearing out all over again...

Don't sweat that you'd rather be playing BJ over poker. It's vacation! Go play something thats fun.
You're a winning player so you many not realize what you're giving up with the money flow from your winnings just yet. But if you expect to have it or would be in a better place with a little more cash, make sure you consider the alternatives.
Maybe just lay off the tourneys. You're not highly motivated to improve your tourney play now anyway.
If you rely on poker to survive. AKA Pro...
Quit you're whining and get back to work.
I'd suggest taking a two week vacation from it. Don't even mess around with friends. Don't watch it on TV and just shake it.
Each time I think I'm done, I make it about a week before the twitch comes back. But I'm sick.
