Chips: 177 | | | Sharing Home Poker Game Setup Costs? Some guy at work has offered his place as an alternate venue to my place.
Trouble is, he doesn't have any chips, cards, poker table (or even a poker table pad/felt), and chairs. And there doesn't seem to be an effort on his part to get any of the stuff we need.
I'll offer to bring my ProClays and cards, but I ain't bringing my table pads or folding chairs.
Have any of you have had experience of an entire group sharing the costs of the chips, table and chairs? Has it worked out? |

It's a very nice gesture by offering up his house. And normally I wouldn't mind bringing chips and/or cards. But EVERYTHING? No way, Jose.
As far as sharing the costs? I see nothing but problems arising from this. What if two or more people want to use the gear the same day at different places? |

I loaned stuff out a couple of times, just chips mind you, but some always seem to come back with a little damage on them so I stopped doing that.
I agree with LS - there's no way I'd share expenses on a setup with anyone - it will only lead to trouble. After all - would you share a girlfriend you really cared about with your buddies, I think not.....Same thing really if you feel like most of us do about chips.
I personally don't share my wife, and will not share my chips either for a game outside of my house. I've even gone so far as to give all my travel cases away so I can't loan chips out to anyone.

If yes and the option is either play at his house with your stuff or no game...I'd go with bring the stuff if you don't care.
I've spent $4K on my poker chips\table and I've been hosting for 10 years weekly. In that time my neighbor has attended just about every game but has never offered to host. How does that sit with you?!?! He doesn't even have kids and I have 2 little ones. At least your friend has offered.....
The sharing costs business is for the birds. |

The sharing costs business is for the birds. | His place is supposedly bigger than mine and we can be really loud and noisy in his place. I live in a really "quiet" apartment complex and can only host 9 people max at the table, and the rest have to spill out on the balcony and living room. However, I have the most central and convenient location, so everybody likes to come to my place. Plus I have street parking so that's a big deal in this part of LA. This other guy's place is also central and convenient except it's larger and apparently has sound-proof walls! I guess there's a consensus sharing costs is a bad idea. I guess we'll just keep on having it at my place since I'm all set up.
I ain't definitely bringing my Pharaohs and my custom boxes over to some other dude's place. Transporting that would just aggravate me. I'd lend him my ProClays but he's gotta put up some of the basic stuff. |

Splitting costs on anything else would probably be a bad idea. |

Hosts provide chips, tables, and chairs, but we often need additional chips and a laptop with tournament management software. I generally take my laptop and my Nexgens for cash games if needed, which I don't mind. My Phaoraoh's and Starbursts never leave home.
I don't have a spouse so that's not an issue; so far I haven't been asked to share my sister. |

Since I am the only one in my league with gear, if someone else hosts (rare) I have a travel set, faux clay, kems, and a table top.

Chips: 1,714 | | | Re: Sharing Home Poker Game Setup Costs? I got to agree with links. My table lives at another house and I bring cards and chips to the game, but the situation is different. I do not play, I deal. These guys could easily afford the stuff themselves, but like my setup. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
