Cash Game or Tournament???

This can apply to both home games and casinos.

What type of poker game do you prefer? Cash (ring) games, Multi-Table Tournaments? Sit-and-Go's?

and why?

I personally only really play cash games. I am not a huge fan of the whole concept of tournaments. Unless you are playing in a large buy-in, deep stack tournament, I feel the structures create a crap-shoot where more value is put on hitting hands, than outplaying your opponent. In a cash game, you can fold for a long time, and wait to create an edge over another player.

Obviously, there is no correct answer, I am just looking for some other opinions.

Re: Cash Game or Tournament???

I prefer cash games. I enjoy the occasional tournament as a diversion. With my game I have folks that prefer one or the other and won't play outside of their preference. FWIW my tournaments are always cheap and the cash game (realitively) less so.

In the home setting I find that cash game offer the most flexibility as far as comings and goings, start time, breaks, etc. Tournaments have the set loss limit and "winner" ideal which appeals to some.

Re: Cash Game or Tournament???

not to be a stick in the mud, but this question has been asked about 3 times now. Try using the search function and you can probably find the old threads. I guess there are probably enough new folks that haven't seen those old threads, but it would probably make more since to bump the old one then start a new one.

I used the word probably 3 times in two sentences. I speeek goot.

Re: Cash Game or Tournament???

I would have to go with SNG's. For one reason or another I keep throwing my money away in cash games. Terrible reads and not knowing when to throw a hand away is killing me.

SNG's as of late have been berry berry good to me lately. I think my temperament and patience are better suited for the SNG's. Plus as the table shortens my aggressiveness takes over.

As we type, I'm trying to get my sharkscope Total Profit in the black. The ROI is here but the (lack of) profit is in the red. That was due to the fact that when I first started playing, I moved up in limits to fast without having the bankroll & the one $100 + $9 SNG where I didn't cash has kept my profits in the red. Now it's 5% of my bankroll (sometimes less) per SNG and it has been working out very well lately. I may stay at the lower limits for awhile and just build up my bankroll until I have enough to buy another sweet chip set.

I could make a lot more money in OT but there's less stress doing this and I don't have to dodge bullets. That's a good thing.

Re: Cash Game or Tournament???

For a home game I think cash is definitely the way to go unless you have some other really interesting diversion for people to participate in once they get knocked out of the tournament.

I agree. But the players in my homegame do not. They firmly refuses to even play a micro stakes cash game at the moment but have no problem with a $50 buyin sit&Go. This sucks because cash games rock!
I blame TV.
