Chips: 107 | | | Biggest game with cheapest/least secure chips you've ever played in? I played in a $1/$2 NLHE cash game a few weeks back, with dice chips. Yep. My first thought was "Wow. Every player has bought in for $100 or more, and we're using these crappy chips?!" My second thought was "How in the world do you not have people to sneaking in chips?"
At one point I had close to $300 in front of me, which seemed ridiculous when you are using some of the cheapest, most common chips on the planet. No security whatsoever.
This wasn't a tight, friendly home game, either -- it was a big tournament (40 players) and cash games materialize as players get knocked out. People are free to bring their friends, so if those people start bringing their friends, you pretty much have opened it up to the whole town.
At any rate, I thought I would tell my tale and invite others to share similar stories... anyone else ever find themselves in a situation like this? |

I kid you not, licensed dealers and everything. Bought in for $200 and nearly cried when they handed me dice chips. I wanted to run to Walmart and buy some greens to take back the next day, but Walmart was 3 hrs away. (wouldn't really do that anyways) |

I also play in a similar game which use to be an every so often home game that recently turned into a weekly raked game with a larger group of players. Even worst than having dice chips is having 3 different kinds of chips (dice chips included) that are not separated by style and all 3 are often in play at the same table.
I think as this game goes on, some will absolutely consider sneaking chips in the game. But this will be the houses problem and to protect myself I will just make sure I'm not one of the last few to cash out. |

I was at an unlicensed private poker club in Toronto with $60 tourneys (15% VIG) and $1/2 NL cash games ($200 max buy-in; 10% per hand rake). I was there for a tourney and they used "suited" chips without edgespots. I mentioned this to the owner, and he showed me the "much more secure" chips they use for cash games, which were the "4 aces" chips you can find all over eBay and at any games/hobby store at a local mall. I tried to tell him about security and getting custom chips, but he thought the current chips were fine. |

Should have added the word "probably" I was in Gardnier, MT... just north of Yellowstone. Stopped there for a couple days when I was moving from MS to WA.
Seriously though, well over a grand in play on the table, licensed dealers, house rake, and dice chips. |
