How do you handle the question: "how much did your chips cost?"

Held a tourny last night...

used over 1500 NCV pharaohs w/ 20 plaques, DB CIC BJs as Rebuy/Addon chips, and the roman bounty chips with the sword edge (4 chip edge picture)... & a decent starburst/cherries cash set. everyone got Dunes card markers

3 sets of new copags - thanks to "while toms away i will play" from samuel thomas - LOL new protoges for all to marvel at...

Good friend, rafting / fishing buddy, and its the first time he's using my "good" chips. Since we always play poker when we're out fishing, I use my sopranos. He asks how much it cost me for chips & gear.

at first i winced a little.... then told him most chips we were using cost ~$1 - which is reasonably close for my chips. but not for the rest of the junk!

he looked at my junk and said back "you know what the saying is...."..he knew i was lying! LOL

Saying: "When I die, hopefully, my wife doesnt sell them for what i told her."

LMAO!!! for him its fishing gear.. i died laughing when he said that to me...
and told him "i have my chips listed in my living will."

i do! He said, "i should think about doing that"

LMAO! we both collapsed in laughter!!!

what do you say?

I tell them that they were free as they were purchased with my poker winnings.....You bought them for me

I tell my poker players the truth and tell my wife that they didn't cost anything as I had to take them for my poker playing.

But I think the wife is getting the idea of how much they are worth as I have heard, "Sell them and get a cheap set."

The regulars at my game understand that good chips cost more than cheapo ones, and the realize how adamant I am about the difference between 11.5g casinos and better chips.

So last week a guy who just started coming regularly comments that we should play the game at his place one time and that he would go get some chips on the internet because as he said "Those Offical 11.5g Casino grade chips are like $35 bucks now"

I almost told him to leave, but before I could get a word out one of the other guys told him to shut up and that they didn't want to hear me rip him a new a$$!!

I laughed so hard!!

At the end of the night it was just him and me and another guy and when I told him about real chips and showed him my ASMs, Paulsons, and TRK's he just shook his head!

Easy. I tell them straight up. $1.65 each. And damn worth every one (to me). Why sugar coat it? I'm not ashamed of it. Everyone I play with appreciates my investment (if not thinking I'm a whacko).

Thats funny!

Most people I play with know that my chips are decent, but they dont care. I remember telling someone how much i paid for my egyptian plaques and they just stared at me like i was insane.

I joined a game a few months ago hosted by a fellow CTer, so everyone already knew about the difference custom ASMs and ceramics and dice chips, but not really the price.
I now host a game with pretty much the same group, but on a different day and use casino Paulsons (MGMs, Vineyards, PNYs, etc.). When they asked about the cost, the other CTer and I just looked at each other and shook our heads saying...."you don't want to know..."
