This was a cash game where eventually it became heads up during the hand. There were 3 hearts on the flop, 4th heart on the turn a club on the river.
Player A acts first after the river and bets the pot, about $40, total pot is now $80
Player B looks worried
Player A mumbles "I hope my heart is higher than yours"
Player B thinks a few more minutes and folds his 4 high flush, shows and then mucks
Player A shows his cards... a KC 4D... no hearts
Is this wrong? unethical? Anyways, Player B gave player A half of what was in the pot minus his $40 bet and said sorry, I didn't really think you had a flush.
Re: Question about lying about your hand in cash game
As I understand it lying about your hand is ok, telling the truth about your hand is not. However, in a home game, if I know someone will get really offended if I do something like this (manipulating them with table talk or trash talking to get them to call) even though its not against the rules I wont do it just because people who get offended or even worse embarassed wont come back for the next game. In short its bad for repeat business. To be clear, I dont think your friend was out of line in any way shape matter or form (in fact it was a great play it got him a pot he would have lost) I am just saying that I would rather loose the occational pot and keep a player in the game then win that pot and run him off for good. On the other hand if they can handle it then lie your A$$ off . Sal

cool, Player A was me and I wasn't sure if I was out of line or not. Felt bad a little for making him lay down his flush when he thought I had one too because I mentioned it. Anyway, I gave him the "rebate" cuz I knew I'd take it all from him later, which I did. Did pretty good that night.. a lot of ppl got thrown off by my play and didn't know what to put me on for the rest of the night. Turned my little $20 buy-in @ a .25¢/.50¢ game into $223.
Thnx guys for making me feel good about myself again.

No, Player B "never" called... he just showed his flush and folded. I was pretty shocked that he folded his flush, but I was catching my cards earlier so that was in my favor.
