I heard of a guy who likes to play Hold'Em Poker with the Joker that comes with the deck of cards. How does this affect the "outs" calculation - for pairs, 3 of a kinds etc it gives you one more out. But what about for cards to a straight or flush - it seems as though needing 2 cards to get a straight, a joker impacts more than just adding one "out".
Also are there rules stating that when a joker is used, it can only be used to make pairs, 3 of a kinds etc and not straights or flushes?
Pai Gow poker I think has some kind of rule like this.
The joker: it is also the bug since the Bee deck was popular and the joker on the Bee deck has a child standing on a bee).
What I am describing is for non-home games:
Before hold em and stud was legalized in California card clubs (mid 1980's, I believe) the only games available were draw type games (high draw, lowball and sometimes jacks back.) On high draws you could use the joker for an ace, to complete a straight, to complete a flush, or to complete a straight flush). On lowball you could use it for the lowest unpaired card for your hand.
I say it is your game!! If you want to use the joker, up to you altho it is not commonly use for holdem. Most common use is as the bug, good for A's, straight's and flushes or not as common, it can be completely wild. That can upset some calculation of outs and odds.
