Is this Nuts? Well what is it?

You like my hook to get you to read my thread? What a teaser.

Anywho. What is it called when you have the best hand possible in a situation, but you don't have the nuts, but the best hand still considering what you hold.

Example.

I've got

And the board is

I don't have the absolute nuts which would be poket K's, but given that I have one king, there's no way anyone else can have quads. I have the best possible hand and at worst tie with another K,Q hand. Is it the nuts? Or is it called something else.
I can't stand it when someone says they have the nuts, when they seem to forget quads would beat a full house...but in this hand, quads just ain't happenin'.

Just a stupid random thought on a dull Friday afternoon....

Well, unless you're playing with wild cards or 5 kings in your deck, you've got the nuts... You have the best possible hand that anyone could possibly have, since KK is not an option.

*EDIT* I just realized it sounds like I'm just repeating you. In short, "Yes" this is called "the nuts" despite a hypothetical hand being ranked higher. Just looking at the board, KQ is equivalent to having KK, since if someone has KK, then no one could have KQ, and vice versa.

As long as its a valid deck, you have THE Nuts as no other hand can beat you. The nuts is the best POSSIBLE hand otherwise you'd only call a Royal Flush the nuts which makes no sense unless you have 3 suited broadway cards up. With you holding a K, the best possible hand is your KQ with a board of KKQ72

I would say that you can still call your boat the nuts, since as you pointed out, there is no possibility of quad kings...there is no hand you can lose to...my 2 cents

Wrong, it is the best possible hand in this situation unless your deck has 5 kings in it.

... or if you're playing that "bonedonskis" game, or whatever it's called... then I'm sure there's a rule where "having the seven of clubs is the nuts when there's a pair of kings on board" or something like that.
